Rev. Dr. Matthew Bonner
Associate Minister and Youth Minister
Rev. Dr. Matthew W. Bonner, a native of Alabama, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Counseling at Johns Hopkins University. From 2016-2018, he was the Director of Clinical Education at Loyola University Maryland in the Pastoral Counseling Department. Prior to that, he was Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator at Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Center for Graduate Studies in Columbia, South Carolina at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary from 2014-2016.
Rev. Bonner possesses the following educational degrees: Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University; Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Howard University; Master of Science (MS) degree in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University; and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Counselor Education from Old Dominion University. He is a member of various counseling organizations and has presented at state, national, and international conferences. He is a licensed counselor and supervisor in the state of Maryland.
As a writer, Rev. Bonner has published several journal articles, book chapters, and encyclopedia entries.
From 2000-2011, he served as Pastor of the following churches: Mount Zion Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church, Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania; Russell Temple CME Church, Alexandria, Virginia; and St. Paul CME Church in Norfolk, Virginia. While in South Carolina, he was an Assistant Minister at Sidney Park CME Church in Columbia. Presently, he is an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and serves as an Associate Minister at Allen Chapel AME Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, where he also serves as the Youth Minister. Rev. Bonner is the husband of Mrs. Michelle Bonner and they have two sons: Jacob and Joshua. His favorite saying is,
